Boasting improved waterproofing of the surface, Colbond 50 has been developed specifically to work effectively with thin and ultra-thin overlays. Especially effective at preventing surface ‘pick-up’ on the wheels of vehicles as well as preventing disbonding of the overlay during normal wear and tear from traffic stresses.

Properties of Colbond 50
Emulsion viscosity ~4° Engler
Emulsion binder content 50%
Recovered binder minimum Peak Vialit Cohesion >1.0J/cm2

Colbond 50 can be sprayed or poured as required, however spraying is likely to give a higher quality, even coat. The area to be sprayed must be clean as possible, free from weeds, standing water, loose material and oil spillage.
Before use Colbond 50 should be thoroughly homogenized, keeping away from frost and rolling the drums frequently should help to avoid seperation and keep a smooth consistency. Vehicular traffic should be kept off the treated area until the emulsion has fully broken, (colour changes from brown to black), then apply the overlay.

Only apply Colbond 50 when the ground temperature is above 5°C and rising or less than 40°C.While humidity of less than 70% is ideal, higher levels simply mean a longer break time, though please be aware due to the base binder being polymer modified, Colbond will behave differently from a conventional bitumen emulsion.Colbond 50 can be warmed before application, though ensure that the temperature does not get too hot and any application machine is regularly cleaned to ensure the ease and quality of the spray.
Colbond 50 complies with the requirements of an Intermediate Grade Binder in accordance with Clause 920 of The Specification for Highway Works.
