While able to be used as a tack coat or to seal flat roofs (among other uses), the main purpose of Bitukold is on transverse or longitudinal vertical joints, patch repairs, trench reinstatements, drain or manhole frames and kerb channels.
Cold joint paint should not be used where the temperatures are lower than 5°C and as always, ensure the surface is clean and free from loose material, oil, grease, standing water and weeds.
It is ideally painted on using a soft fibre or turks head (tar) brush, moistened with water and shaken out before use, then proceed to paint the cold joint on in one direction. Surfacing can begin in normal conditions within 15 minutes, longer in cold, damp and humid weather.
On vertical joints 1.5kg/sqm gives a dried film thickness of 1mm. On a 50mm deep joint, a 15kg bucket should spread 200 linear metres.
Bitukold is supplied in 15kg tubs (36 to a pallet) which should be stored away from frost and extreme temperatures to ensure the full storage life of up to 6 months.
Bitukold complies with BS 594987 clause 6.8 Joints, vertical face coating.
